2025-26 Hockinson Wrestling Season Recap

This season was another huge step forward for Hockinson Wrestling! From the opening dual meets in December to the final whistle at the Tacoma Dome, this team continued to raise the standard of what Hawk Wrestling looks like. The commitment, toughness, and culture built throughout the season led to incredible success both on and off the mat.

Our wrestlers competed with confidence and pride all season long, battling through a rigorous 2A Greater St. Helens League dual schedule against tough local rivals like Washougal and Columbia River, and continuing to establish Hockinson as a respected force in Washington wrestling.

The Hawks finished the dual season with an outstanding record and competed at an elite tier throughout league and postseason competition. Week after week, athletes stepped up in big moments, embraced challenges, and proved that hard work pays off.

LEAGUE & DISTRICT SUCCESS 🏆

Hockinson put together a powerhouse performance during the tournament cycle. The Hawks crowned two individual District Champions on the girls' side, advanced five boys to the league finals, and used exceptional depth across both rosters to fuel a massive postseason push.

• Makenzie Carter (105 lbs) – 1st Place (Scored 23.5 team points, sealing the title with a gritty 15-11 decision over R.A. Long).

• Teagan Trenda (130 lbs) – 1st Place (Scored a massive 29.5 team points, tearing through the bracket with three consecutive pins and a 16-0 tech fall).

🥈 Tournament Runner-Ups & All-League 2nd Team (Boys)

• Parker Leibfried (106 lbs) – Placed 2nd, contributing 20.0 team points with a dramatic 12-10 semifinal decision.

• Colin Richardson (113 lbs) – Placed 2nd, contributing 22.0 team points with two dominant pins reaching the finals.

• Austin Wallace (138 lbs) – Placed 2nd, contributing 20.0 team points after a gritty 9-6 semifinal battle.

• Liam McKee (144 lbs) – Placed 2nd, contributing 22.0 team points with back-to-back falls in the early rounds.

• Leniel Sutton (175 lbs) – Placed 3rd, scoring 18.0 team points and capping his tournament with an 8-2 decision over Washougal.

• Lucas White (215 lbs) – 4th Place (14.0 team points, fighting back with two big consolation pins).

• Zowie Lehecka (105 lbs) – 5th Place (11.0 team points, finishing her tournament with a 3:45 pin).

• Elliana De La Rocha (135 lbs) – 5th Place (13.0 team points, ending her day with a 3:43 fall).

• Colin Trenda (165 lbs) – 5th Place (12.0 team points, pinning his final opponent in 3:58).

• Faith Sjothun (190 lbs) – 5th Place (10.0 team points, avenging an early loss with a 4:37 pin in the placement match).

• Brody Walton (106 lbs) – 6th Place (7.0 team points).

• Deagan Matson (132 lbs) – 6th Place (10.0 team points).

• Caleb O’Dell (144 lbs) – 6th Place (11.0 team points, featuring a thrilling 14-13 decision victory).

• Leana Berezhnoy (125 lbs) – 6th Place (12.0 team points, tracking down a 10-1 major decision in consolations).

• Abigail Heuschkel (155 lbs) – 6th Place (8.0 team points, opening with a 10-2 major decision).

• Richard Soule (157 lbs) – Scored 3.5 team points with a dominant 17-0 tech fall.

• Ashlyn McKay (130 lbs) – Scored 3.0 points with a 3:45 pin in the consolation bracket.

• Evan Meyer (113 lbs), Izayiah Rivera (126 lbs), & Ashley Fritz (140 lbs) – All wrestled tough to get on the board and add to the Hawks' team score.

POSTSEASON RUN 🔥

The postseason once again showcased the rapid, historic growth of our program, fueled by an unprecedented contingent from both our boys' and girls' rosters. Following an elite regional performance, Hockinson pushed a powerhouse squad of 15 total wrestlers to the WIAA State Championships (Mat Classic) at the Tacoma Dome, bringing home three coveted state podium spots.

Competing on the biggest stage in Washington wrestling, our athletes represented Hockinson with unmatched toughness, composure, and heart.

HAWKS CENTURY CLUB 💯🦅

This season also marked a major milestone in program history as two foundational wrestlers officially earned membership into the Hawks Century Club, recognizing elite athletes who achieve 100 varsity career victories.

Congratulations to:

• Liam McKee (‘26) – Amassed 28 dominant wins this winter to eclipse the 100-career-victory milestone.

• Teagan Trenda (‘26) – Capped off a stellar four-year run with a 31-3 senior campaign, securing her legacy as one of the most decorated wrestlers in program history.

Reaching 100 varsity wins is a testament to years of hard work, consistency, toughness, and absolute dedication to the sport. Both athletes have played a monumental role in continuing to elevate the standard of Hockinson Wrestling and leave a lasting legacy within the program.

MORE THAN WINS

What made this season special went far beyond medals and team scores. This group showed tremendous leadership, accountability, and resilience throughout the year. Whether it was grueling early morning practices, difficult travel weekends, high-stakes challenge matches, or supporting teammates through adversity, this team consistently chose to compete with character.

The coaching staff is incredibly proud of the effort and growth shown by every single athlete in the room. Our seniors left an indelible impact on the program, while our younger wrestlers gained invaluable experience that will continue pushing Hawk Wrestling forward.
