12/13/2025 - Hawks Build Momentum with Washougal Dual Win, Strong Showing at Centralia Tiger Classic

The Hockinson wrestling program put together an impressive stretch of competition last week, opening with a hard-fought league dual victory at Washougal on Wednesday, December 10, before carrying that momentum into the Centralia Tiger Classic over the weekend at Centralia High School.

Midweek Dual: Hockinson Tops Washougal

The Hockinson boys varsity team earned a statement win on the road, defeating Washougal 44–36 in an exciting dual that featured bonus points, clutch performances, and depth across the lineup.

The Hawks jumped out early and never let up, highlighted by multiple falls:

• Brody Walton (106) set the tone with a first-period fall.
  
  

• John Carey (120) controlled his match, winning by technical fall (17–1).
  
  

• Austin Wallace (138), Richard Soule (150), Wyatt Carter (157), and Leniel Sutton (175) all secured crucial falls to swing momentum in Hockinson’s favor.
  
  

• Erdalbek Mailov (285) closed out the dual with a strong 7–1 decision, sealing the team victory.
  
  

The win showcased the Hawks’ ability to capitalize on bonus points and execute in key matchups.

Girls Dual Results

The Hockinson girls also had a productive night, earning multiple wins by fall and forfeit:

• Hannah Abraham (100), Makenzie Carter (105), Zowie Lehecka (110), Amelia Hansen (115), Olivia Archuleta (120), Teagan Trenda (135), Audrey Armstrong (155), and Abigail Heuschkel (170) all picked up victories.
  
  

The dual provided valuable mat time and set the stage for a strong weekend performance.

Centralia Tiger Classic Tournament Recap

Following the Washougal dual, the Hawks traveled to Centralia for the Centralia Tiger Classic, competing against a large and competitive field.

Boys Varsity

The boys varsity team finished 11th out of 23 teams, scoring 84 team points.

John Carey (120 lbs) led the charge with an outstanding tournament, placing 3rd overall. Carey battled back through the consolation bracket with a series of dominant wins, including multiple falls, before closing out the weekend with a third-place match victory by fall.

Other notable performances included:

• Wyatt Carter, who reached the semifinals after back-to-back falls.
  
  

• Leniel Sutton (175 lbs), who went on an impressive consolation run with four straight falls.
  
  

• Colin Richardson, who fought his way to the 3rd-place match, narrowly missing the podium.
  
  

• Erdalbek Mailov (285 lbs), who bounced back with two consecutive falls after an early loss.
  
  

Girls Varsity

The Hockinson girls varsity team continued to shine, finishing 3rd overall out of 25 teams with 107 team points.

• Teagan Trenda (135 lbs) captured 1st place, dominating her bracket with three falls, including a championship win.
  
  

• Makenzie Carter (105 lbs) earned 2nd place, reaching the finals with three lightning-fast pins.
  
  

• Zowie Lehecka (110 lbs) placed 3rd, rebounding strong after the semifinals with two wins by fall.
  
  

• Elliana De La Rocha (140 lbs) also finished 3rd, showing grit and composure in the consolation rounds.
  
  

The girls’ consistent scoring and multiple podium finishes highlighted the depth and competitiveness of the program.

Up Next for the Hawks

Hockinson wrestling is back in action this week with another league showdown, hosting Columbia River in a dual match on Tuesday evening, with wrestling scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.

The Hawks will then split squads on Saturday for a full day of tournament action:

• Varsity Boys will compete in Longview at the Three Rivers Classic hosted by Mark Morris High School.
  
  

• Varsity Girls and JV will travel to Union High School for the Union Tournament Invitational.
  
  

All tournament wrestling on Saturday is set to begin at 10:00 AM.

With momentum building and multiple lineups gaining valuable experience, the Hawks look to continue their strong start as the season moves forward.
